Our Community
Before interviewing
- Do some research. Take time to read about how we work, our values, culture, and mission. Learn about the people you’ll be meeting and take time to understand what we’re trying to achieve with our product.
- Know the job description. Our job descriptions detail the responsibilities of the role and what we expect candidates to bring in terms of experience and skills. Read this carefully to understand what we’re expecting from a successful applicant
- Explore our Careers page. Our careers page is full of important information on what it’s like to work at Dovetail and how to thrive here. If you haven’t already, make sure you read it.
When interviewing
- Be concise. Interview time is limited. We value communication that is both thorough and concise. Answer questions in a way that provides sufficient context but be mindful that we have a lot to get through.
- Be curious. Come prepared with questions. We want you to ask about the role, our culture, product, and anything else that you’re curious about.
- Listen thoughtfully. Think carefully to our questions and seek clarification if you need. Ask questions to get more context. The interview is a conversation not an exam.
- Be an owner. Focus on the impact you have had in your role. Collaboration is important but don’t forget the interview is about you.
- Problem-Solving. It’s not all about successful outcomes. We want to hear how you solve problems and the obstacles you overcame along the way.
- Communicate openly. It’s not just about having the right answer. We want to hear the journey you took to get there. Talk through your thought process, decisions, and the underlying why behind your approach.
Our interview process
Our interview process aims to ensure Dovetail is the right fit for you just as much as ensuring you are the right fit for Dovetail. Ways of working are weighted equally to technical components of the role.
- Video screener (30 minutes)
- The video screener is the first conversation you will have with Dovetail. It is where our recruiter will ask you questions about your career experience and motivations for a new role. The recruiter will also give you an introduction into Dovetail, the company, org structure, and any detail about the relevant position.
- Technical interview (60 to 120 minutes)
- Our technical interviews are tailored per role. They can be anything from workshops to hands-on technical assessments, presentations, and creative writing exercises. Prior to the technical interview, we will provide you with a brief so you can adequately prepare yourself.
- Topgrading interview (60 to 90 minutes)
- The topgrading interview is a deep dive into your career experience, role by role. We will probe into things like successes, failures, things you learned, how your managers would rate you, and your motivations for leaving
- Values interview (45 minutes)
- The values interview provides our interviewers an opportunity to dive deeper into you as a person and your alignment to our values outside of the technical aspects of the position. You will be asked questions that directly relate to our five values, which can be found on our careers page.
- Final interview (30 minutes)
- The final interview is where you will meet with two members of our senior leadership team. Interviewers will dive into your experience as well as seek to better understand your career aspirations and reasons for wanting to work at Dovetail. You can also take this opportunity to ask questions of our senior leaders.
